Maldonado officials sign agreement with FUCVAM for housing land

Maldonado Mayor Miguel Abella and the Federation of Mutual Aid Housing Cooperatives of Uruguay (FUCVAM) have signed an agreement to facilitate organized land access for housing cooperatives. Under this new system, the Intendencia de Maldonado (IDM) will deliver land to federations rather than to individual cooperatives. This change aims to prevent land from being held indefinitely by cooperatives that fail to progress with construction.

The first stage of the project involves 10 hectares located near Camino Al Pantanal, which will provide between 15 and 16 plots. The IDM will subsidize land prices by providing land at appraised values rather than market rates. The government has also allocated budget for urbanization, ensuring that plots are delivered with essential services including water, electricity, sanitation, roads, and lighting. The implementation of this plan is expected to become a reality by 2027.
