Maldonado: Two men killed by falling tree in Parque Burnett

Two men, aged 23 and 28, died on Friday afternoon in Parque Burnett, Maldonado, after being crushed by a falling tree. The victims, who were living in a makeshift tent in a wooded area near Del Rodeo and La Herradura streets, were unable to escape when the tree fell.

Investigations revealed that a private pruning and logging company was working in the area at the time. The company was reportedly unaware that individuals were camping in the vicinity. The dense acacia trees in the area may have obscured visibility.

The Intendencia de Maldonado (IDM) clarified through its Environmental Management Directorate that the workers involved were neither municipal crews nor part of the outsourced company typically contracted by the municipality for public space maintenance. Local authorities and the prosecutor's office are investigating the circumstances to determine responsibility for the incident.
