Malecón selected as Cuba's candidate for the Oscars

The film ‘Malecón’, directed by Carlos Larrazábal, has been selected as Cuba’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards.

A co-production between Cuba, Spain, and the United States, the drama was filmed entirely in Cuba. The plot follows Elvis, an ex-convict who, after being released, must navigate the complexities of prostitution and a difficult choice between reclaiming a childhood love or fleeing to the United States to start anew.

The production was supported by the Cuban company i4films, led by actor Jorge Perugorría, Flavio Florencio, and producer Inti Herrera. The film’s title refers to the iconic sea wall in Havana, a symbol of the city and a witness to the country's dramatic immigration processes.
