Malegaon protesters march against Chief Election Commissioner
The 'Samvidhan Bachao Samiti' organized a Tiranga March in Malegaon, Maharashtra, to protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The march, intended to proceed from the statue of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, was halted by police using barricades at Sangameshwar Corner.
Mustaqim Dignity, the youth president of the Maharashtra Samajwadi Party, stated that the movement was directed specifically at the Chief Election Commissioner rather than the government or police. He argued that the Election Commission must remain an impartial institution and suggested that if public trust in the Commissioner has eroded, he should resign. A demand for resignation has been forwarded to President Droupadi Murmu.
Protesters criticized the heavy police deployment at the starting point of the march, alleging that authorities were attempting to suppress the movement. While the march was blocked, no untoward incidents were reported during the demonstration.
