Malena Galmarini defends private jet trip to Barbados
Argentine Senator Malena Galmarini has defended a recent trip to Barbados taken with her husband, former Economy Minister Sergio Massa, and five friends. During an interview on C5N, Galmarini addressed criticisms regarding the use of a private jet for the vacation, which coincided with the celebration of their 30th wedding anniversary.
Galmarini justified the expenditure by stating that the couple maintains a modest lifestyle, noting they do not frequent theaters or restaurants and have lived in the same home for three decades. Regarding the private aircraft, she explained that they accepted an invitation from a long-time friend who possesses the plane, though she did not explicitly name the individual during the interview.
Reports indicate the aircraft belongs to businessman Francisco De Narváez. The trip has drawn scrutiny and legal complaints regarding whether the use of the jet constitutes an improper corporate gift while Galmarini holds office. Galmarini maintained that her husband has complied with all public ethics laws following his departure from government, noting that his current professional activities are conducted outside of Argentina to assist foreign governments with investment.
