Mali: 54 civilians killed in Tagadayat camp attack

The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) have reported that 54 civilians were killed following attacks on camps in the Ménaka region of northeastern Mali. A joint patrol of Malian forces and their allies discovered the bodies in a camp located in Tagadayat.

Initial testimonies attribute the massacre to the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (EIGS), a jihadist group active near the borders of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso. The attackers reportedly arrived on motorcycles and opened fire on camps primarily inhabited by members of the Daoussaak community.

Nine survivors were rescued from the site and transported to the city of Ménaka for medical treatment. The Malian military stated that the deceased victims were buried at the site of the incident. In response to the violence, authorities are coordinating the relocation of residents from threatened camps to the urban center of Ménaka to enhance protection.
