Mali anti-corruption groups demand audit of transition-era public contracts

A coalition of approximately one hundred Malian anti-corruption associations, organized under the Réseau des associations de lutte contre la corruption et la délinquance financière (RAMLCDF), has officially requested an audit of public contracts awarded during the country's military transition.

The request was submitted to the Vérificateur général, the national institution responsible for auditing public finance management. The associations are seeking a comprehensive review of all public procurement conducted over the last six years, a period marked by successive coups d'état and a prolonged military-led transition.

Specific concerns have been raised regarding the transparency of sensitive expenditures, particularly military equipment purchases and the acquisition of a new presidential aircraft. The RAMLCDF noted that during this transition, traditional democratic oversight mechanisms, such as parliamentary control, have been suspended or significantly reduced, necessitating increased scrutiny from civil society to ensure the proper use of public funds.
