Mali appoints General Kéba Sangaré as Governor of Dioïla region

On 29 July 2026 Mali’s Council of Ministers named General of Division Kéba Sangaré as governor of the Dioïla region. The appointment brings a senior military officer with extensive experience in combat operations, training and senior staff roles to civilian administration. Sangaré, son of the late General Pangassy Sangaré, has served in parachute units, commanded the National Commando Training Center, overseen the military school in Tombouctou and held deputy chief‑of‑staff positions in the army. The move marks the first time a high‑ranking officer has been placed in charge of a regional civilian authority, reflecting the government’s effort to strengthen security and governance in the central‑southern part of the country.
