Mali cancels gold permits linked to Nguvu Mining

Mali has revoked two gold exploitation permits controlled by Nguvu Mining, a West African mining group led by Ghanaian executive Angela List. The decrees, signed by Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga, affect permits held by Ségala Mining Corporation (SEMICO) and Société d’Exploitation des Mines de Kofi (Kofi SA).

The National Directorate of Geology and Mines notified the companies of the cancellation, citing Mali’s 2023 Mining Code. The revocation orders include requirements for site closure and rehabilitation. Nguvu holds an 80 per cent stake in these operations, with the Republic of Mali owning the remaining 20 per cent.

This regulatory action follows the recent nationalisation of the Samira Hill mine in neighbouring Niger, which was also part of Nguvu’s portfolio. The developments are noted for their potential impact on the Ghanaian mining industry, as Ms List also serves as First Vice-President of the Ghana Chamber of Mines.
