Mali celebrates 66th independence anniversary

Various regions in Mali celebrated the 66th anniversary of the nation's independence with official ceremonies involving military, administrative, and civilian leaders.

In Nioro, celebrations were held at the El Hadji Oumar Tall military camp. Officials, including Administrative and Legal Affairs Advisor Lassana Diarra, emphasized the importance of unity between civilians and the military to protect people and property. The event included the promotion of several military personnel to higher ranks.

In another region, festivities were led by Brigadier General Daouda Dembélé. The commemorations included a reforestation initiative, the laying of a wreath at the Independence Monument, and a military and civil parade. During his address, General Dembélé observed a minute of silence for victims of terrorism and highlighted critical regional challenges, including security concerns, fuel supplies, the humanitarian crisis, and drought.
