Mali dissolves Bamako Commune I communal council
The Malian government has dissolved the communal council of Commune I in the Bamako District following reports of administrative dysfunction and regulatory violations. The decision was announced during a Council of Ministers meeting on October 23, 2026.
Authorities cited several specific grievances, including irregular land subdivision operations, fraudulent recognition of land rights, and the improper issuance of residential land notifications. The council was also accused of mismanagement regarding ordinary and emphyteutic leases, as well as the unauthorized collection of premiums on marriage celebration fees.
The dissolution was carried out under the provisions of the Territorial Collectivities Code. This action follows a request for explanations previously issued by the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization. The move occurs amid a broader national context of significant land-related disputes in Mali, which represent a major portion of formal complaints handled by state institutions.
