Mali creates state transport and logistics company
The Malian government has officially adopted the legal framework and statutes for the creation of the Société malienne de Transport et de Logistique. This new state-owned entity is designed to manage the road transport of both passengers and goods, operating both within national borders and across international corridors.
The initiative aims to strengthen Mali’s control over its supply chain and reduce its heavy dependence on road corridors connecting the landlocked nation to regional ports. The government identified several critical challenges in the current system, specifically regarding the transport, handling, warehousing, and storage of strategic products such as agricultural goods, inputs, and hydrocarbons.
By establishing this national tool, the state intends to ensure the availability, accessibility, and quality of essential goods throughout the country. While the specific details regarding the company’s share capital, vehicle fleet, and official launch date have not yet been disclosed, the move is part of a broader reform to enhance economic sovereignty and supply chain resilience.
