Mali faces low turnout in annual voter list revision
Mali has launched its annual voter list revision, which began on October 1, 2026, but authorities report low citizen mobilization in several localities. The process includes registering new voters, correcting information, validating data, and removing deceased individuals to ensure reliable lists for future elections.
In Ségou, officials emphasized that the revision is essential for establishing credible electoral documents. However, in areas like Bankass, residents have linked the low participation to the prolonged absence of elections, calling for authorities to organize polls quickly so citizens can obtain voter cards.
Local authorities are attempting to increase engagement through awareness campaigns, specifically targeting younger populations, before the December 31 deadline.
