Mali launches fifth National Reconciliation Week

Mali has officially launched the fifth edition of the National Reconciliation Week (SENARE), running from September 15 to 21, 2026. The event aims to foster social cohesion and national unity through a variety of civic, cultural, and sporting activities, including citizen dialogues and educational initiatives.

The theme for this year is ‘Education, culture and reconciliation: building resilient citizenship for peace within the AES and the sub-region.’ This focus links peacebuilding to the development of responsible citizenship and cultural values. The program is expected to include delegations from Burkina Faso, Niger, and Guinea.

This edition operates under an updated policy framework, including the National Charter for Peace and Reconciliation promulgated in August 2025. The reconciliation efforts are also supported by the Observatory for Peace and National Reconciliation, led by former Prime Minister Ousmane Issoufi Maïga, which monitors the application of the Charter and provides recommendations to the Presidency.
