Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso launch joint bid to host AFCON 2032

The football federations of Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso have officially submitted a joint candidature to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to host the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations. The three representatives met with CAF President Patrice Motsepe in New York on 18 July, during the 2026 World Cup summit, and delivered a formal expression of interest, marking the first step in the bidding process.

The bid highlights existing and planned infrastructure: Mali already has five CAF‑approved stadiums, Burkina Faso secured approval for its Ouagadougou venue for 2025, and Niger is upgrading the General Seyni Kountché Stadium to meet CAF standards. Organisers acknowledge ongoing security challenges from insurgencies in the Sahel but argue the combined resources provide a credible, innovative proposal. The candidature will compete with bids from Libya, Morocco, Egypt, South Africa and other African nations. The next AFCON, in 2027, will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
