Malibu coastal erosion threatens Nicolas Cage mansion
A massive crater has opened in Malibu, California, threatening the US$ 10.5 million mansion of actor Nicolas Cage. The collapse, located on Sea Level Drive, has destroyed part of the property's garage entrance and compromised access to the area.
Local authorities report that the crater measures approximately 9 meters by 18 meters and reaches a depth of 7.6 meters. The incident has caused significant infrastructure damage, including the rupture of water and gas pipelines. In total, 31 properties in the vicinity have been deemed unsafe, with seven classified as uninhabitable and 24 lacking secure vehicle access.
The erosion is attributed to a combination of heavy rainfall, high tides, and the recent impact of Hurricane Marie. The geological instability has also affected other coastal areas, such as Capistrano Beach, where at least 14 homes were hit by intense waves.
