Malibu Farmers Market moves to City Hall parking lot amid permit dispute

The Malibu Farmers Market has moved to a temporary location at the Malibu City Hall parking lot following a dispute with city officials over its previous site at Legacy Park. The city ordered the market to cease operations at the park due to unresolved concerns regarding public safety, parking availability, and permit compliance. Officials noted that market vehicles and booths occupied nearly 40% of available public parking in the Civic Center area, impacting neighboring businesses.

Debra Bianco, co-founder and president of the Cornucopia Foundation, expressed frustration with the suddenness of the move, noting that the short notice and the hidden location resulted in lower vendor turnout and reduced foot traffic. The market is seeking a permit to return to a parking lot at the Santa Monica College Malibu satellite campus, formerly known as the Malibu Library lot. City officials described the current arrangement at City Hall as a temporary solution to ensure the community can still access the market while a long-term, compliant location is secured.
