Malibu kayaker attacked by shark while fishing

A man fishing from a kayak was attacked by a shark near Paradise Cove in Malibu on Sunday morning. The incident occurred approximately two miles off the coast around 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

Reports indicate the man hooked a shortfin mako shark and became entangled while attempting to release the animal. According to lifeguard Alex Buford, the shark bit the man, and after he released the fish, the shark returned, knocked him into the water, and bit his leg a second time.

A nearby fisherman rescued the victim and pulled him onto a boat. The man was subsequently assisted by Los Angeles County lifeguards and transported by ambulance to a local hospital. His current medical condition has not been released.
