Malibu orders Farmers Market to vacate Legacy Park

The city of Malibu has ordered the Malibu Farmers Market to immediately cease operations at Legacy Park, citing unresolved issues regarding public safety, parking, and permit compliance. City officials stated that the park was not designed or approved for permanent market operations.

According to the city, the market's presence at Legacy Park has caused significant parking shortages, with vendor vehicles and booths occupying approximately 40% of the available public parking in the Civic Center area. This has limited access for customers of neighboring businesses, a problem exacerbated by increased summer visitor traffic.

City Manager Joe Irvin stated that the decision was not intended to shut down the market but to ensure public safety and fair application of city requirements. As a temporary solution, the market has been relocated to the Malibu City Hall parking lot under a temporary permit while its permanent license is processed by Los Angeles County.
