Malick Diakité resigns as France 24 correspondent in Guinea
Malick Diakité, the France 24 correspondent in Guinea, has announced his resignation. In a letter to the network's general management dated September 24, 2026, Diakité described the decision as “mûrement réfléchie” (thoroughly considered).
His departure follows a period of tension between France 24 and Guinean authorities, which arose after comments made by presenter Julien Fanciulli regarding the head of state. This controversy also led to the withdrawal of accreditation for a correspondent.
Diakité stated that his decision stems from a desire to “réaffirmer [son] attachement profond à [son] pays, la Guinée” (reaffirm my deep attachment to my country, Guinea). He noted that his choice does not negate his years of professional journalism with the international network but represents a new personal and professional direction aimed at projects serving the youth and women of Guinea.
