Malik Jabir urges Kurt Okraku to forgo third GFA term
Ghanaian football legend Malik Jabir has called on Kurt Okraku to abandon plans to seek a third term as president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA). Jabir argued that leadership should be evaluated based on on-pitch success and trophies won rather than tenure length.
The GFA recently amended its constitution during the 2025 Congress, increasing the presidential term limit from two to three terms. This change could allow Okraku, who has held the position since 2019, to run for re-election in 2027.
Jabir expressed concern regarding the constitutional changes, stating, “any association that keeps changing its term of office means maybe we are not too serious.” He noted that Okraku would likely have more support to remain in office if the national teams had secured major silverware during his presidency.
As preparations for the 2027 election begin, several individuals have expressed interest in the presidency, including Samuel Annim Addo, Ralph Gyambrah, Elloeny Amande, and former Black Stars captain Andre Ayew. Former GFA vice-president George Afriyie has not yet decided whether to enter the race.
