Malinau Regency reports declining poverty and rising human development index
Malinau Regency in North Kalimantan has seen a decrease in its poverty rate, dropping from 5.56 percent in 2025 to 4.92 percent in 2026, according to Regent Wempi W Mawa.
The decline is attributed to various poverty alleviation programs, including social assistance, subsidized transport for people and goods, market operations, school supply aid, and scholarship programs. Additionally, the local government is focusing on increasing community income through job training, MSME development, and the 'Milenial Mandiri' program.
Furthermore, the Human Development Index (HDI) for Malinau Regency rose to 75.21 points in 2025, a 0.49 percent increase from the previous year. This growth reflects improvements in education, health, and living standards. The local government continues to prioritize basic infrastructure, such as repairing uninhabitable houses, improving road access, and providing clean water and health facilities.
