Maliq resident protests municipal merger with walking stick

An elderly resident, Reiz Petritaj, caused a confrontation during a Maliq Municipal Council meeting by using a walking stick to prevent the Council Chairman from leaving the hall. Petritaj, a resident of Selcë village, stated his actions were driven by a revolt against the potential dissolution of the Maliq Municipality and its proposed merger with Korçë.

Petritaj expressed deep concern regarding local corruption, specifically mentioning issues related to water management and hydroelectric plants. He also highlighted the mass emigration of local residents as a significant problem for the region. He issued a warning to the Speaker of the Parliament, asserting that the community will not allow the municipality to be dissolved and hinting at further protests.
