Mallardo clan members sentenced for 1996 Di Lorenzo murder
The Italian Court of Cassation has issued final sentences in the murder of Mario Di Lorenzo, a case involving the Mallardo crime clan that has spanned 30 years. The ruling confirms the responsibility of Francesco Napolitano and Michele Olimpio for the aggravated homicide.
Investigators determined that Napolitano, acting as the clan's regent in 1996, ordered the elimination of Di Lorenzo. The victim had reportedly violated internal gang rules by continuing to demand extortion payments from small business owners in Giugliano despite explicit prohibitions from clan leadership.
Michele Olimpio was identified as a material executor of the crime, which took place during an ambush while Di Lorenzo was in his vehicle. The final incarceration orders were executed by the Naples Anti-Mafia Investigative Directorate following the judicial conclusion of the case.
