Mallika Jirapunvanich clarifies cutting MP's microphone

Mallika Jirapunvanich, the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has clarified the decision to cut the microphone of Pattarapong Leelapat, a People's Party MP from Chiang Mai, during a parliamentary debate.

The incident occurred during the discussion of the Clean Air Management Bill. Mallika stated that the microphone was deactivated because the MP exceeded his allotted five-minute speaking time, rather than due to the content of his speech or criticisms directed at the Senate. She emphasized that the rules regarding time limits and polite language are applied uniformly to all members to ensure the meeting proceeds orderly and stays within the schedule set by the whips.

Mallika further noted that maintaining decorum and avoiding profanity is essential, especially since parliamentary sessions are broadcast live, as such language sets a poor example for the public and youth. She denied any personal conflict with the MP or his political party, asserting that her role is to uphold parliamentary discipline and manage the session effectively.
