Mallikarjun Kharge accuses BJP government of suppressing dissent

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of using repressive tactics against both the opposition and the public. In a statement shared on social media, Kharge alleged that the government responds to questions with the use of central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against political opponents, while employing physical force against citizens.

Kharge specifically cited instances of violence, including a lathi charge on youth at Jantar Mantar and alleged physical assaults by ministers. He also referenced past grievances, such as the deaths of farmers during protests, the use of rubber bullets, and the lack of justice for Dalits in Una, Gujarat. He characterized the current political climate as one where the BJP and RSS are moving beyond policy disagreements toward direct physical suppression of dissent.
