Mallikarjun Kharge accuses Modi government of stifling democracy
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has accused the Modi government of turning India into a ‘silent democracy’ by detaining individuals who question the administration. Kharge stated that the government is targeting a wide range of people, including youth, students, lawyers, journalists, social activists, farmer union leaders, and content creators.
Kharge criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), claiming their actions represent cowardice. He emphasized that detentions, arrests, and police actions cannot prevent citizens from fighting for their rights and pledged that the Congress party would work with the united opposition to defend the Constitution and fundamental rights.
Additionally, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor described the security situation in Delhi as a ‘war-like deployment.’ He criticized measures such as barricading and internet shutdowns, suggesting these actions are intended to suppress questions regarding the fairness of elections and that the younger generation deserves better than an undeclared state of emergency.
