Mallikarjun Kharge calls for dissolution of Lok Sabha and state assemblies
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has declared that current elections across India are illegal, calling for the dissolution of the Lok Sabha and all state assemblies. Kharge stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and all sitting Chief Ministers lack legitimacy due to the current electoral system.
The Congress leader demanded that fresh elections be conducted using physical ballot papers instead of electronic voting machines (EVMs), alleging that EVMs are being misused. He specifically criticized the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, claiming the process is being used to undermine democracy and disproportionately affect the poor, uneducated, and minority communities.
During a Congress Working Committee meeting, the party demanded the resignations of Modi, Shah, and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Party leaders have characterized large-scale deletions from voter lists as ‘vote-demonetisation’ and argued that the ongoing electoral roll revisions are undermining universal adult suffrage.
