Mallikarjun Kharge seeks 25-year freeze on Lok Sabha seats

Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting an all-party meeting to discuss proposed delimitation exercises. Kharge urged the government to provide political parties and state governments sufficient time to study any proposals before they are introduced in Parliament.

The Indian National Congress has stated its position to maintain the current Lok Sabha strength of 543 seats and the existing state-wise seat allocation for another 25 years. Additionally, Kharge called for the introduction of a one-third reservation for women starting from the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
