Mallikarjun Kharge sparks political row with remark on PM Modi’s late father
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has triggered a major political controversy following a remark about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late father during a public event in Patna, Bihar. The incident occurred during a program commemorating the 139th birth anniversary of Bihar’s first Chief Minister, Dr. Shri Krishna Singh.
According to reports, an audience member interrupted Kharge’s speech by shouting that the Prime Minister would not leave power. Kharge responded by saying, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega” (Even Modi’s father will go). The exchange led to chaos at the venue, with reports indicating that Congress workers confronted and allegedly assaulted the individual who interrupted the speech.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly condemned the remarks, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah accusing the Congress of abandoning political decorum and resorting to personal attacks due to electoral frustration. BJP leaders have described the language as “unacceptable” and “mafia-like.” In response, the BJP has announced nationwide protests and plans to burn effigies of Kharge.
While the BJP maintains the comment was a direct insult to the Prime Minister’s family, some Congress leaders defended the remark, suggesting it was an ideological response to the RSS or a reaction to a provocative interruption. The individual involved, identified as Santosh Kumar, claimed he was a Congress worker and that his original comment was misunderstood.
