Mallikarjun Kharge urges Modi, Shah to address Jantar Mantar student protest crackdown in Parliament

Congress leader and Rajya Sabha opposition chief Mallikarjun Kharge called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to appear before Parliament and explain the government's response to the July 20 student protest at Jantar Mantar. Kharge said police used lathi charges, pellet guns and tear‑gas against demonstrators and demanded answers on the alleged "missing funds" linked to donations for the Shri Ram Mandir trust.

He criticised the prime minister for avoiding the House, noting that the PM posts statements on Instagram rather than answering questions in the chamber. On the same day, Kharge chaired a meeting of the INDIA bloc with Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, signalling coordinated opposition pressure on the government.
