Mallikarjun Kharge urges PM Modi to hold all-party meet on delimitation
Congress President and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, has written a fourth letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting an immediate all-party meeting to discuss proposed delimitation changes. Kharge is seeking consensus before any new Constitutional Amendment Bill is finalized or brought to Parliament.
In his correspondence, Kharge highlighted an “unprecedented” 64-day gap since the Monsoon Session was adjourned sine die on August 13, 2026, noting that neither House of Parliament has been formally prorogued. He cautioned the government against pushing through far-reaching amendments without broad deliberation.
Kharge also referenced a previous attempt in April, where a Delimitation Constitutional Amendment Bill failed to secure the required two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha. He emphasized that all political parties require sufficient time to deliberate with stakeholders to avoid unilateral decision-making.
