Mallorca and Salou prepare historical cultural celebrations

The Diada de Mallorca 2026 will feature a diverse program of cultural and institutional events organized by the Consell de Mallorca. The celebrations commemorate the historical roots of the Kingdom of Mallorca, specifically marking the anniversary of September 12, 1276, when King Jaume II swore the Charter of Privileges and Exemptions in Palma.

The 2026 program also marks the centenary of the first public performance of ‘La Balanguera’, the island's official anthem. Scheduled activities include a representation of Jaume II's coronation, a floral offering at the Cathedral, and the official gala for the Jaume II Awards and Medals of Honor.

In Salou, celebrations focus on the Festa del Rei Jaume I, commemorating the departure of King Jaume I from the local port on September 5, 1229, during the conquest of Mallorca. Local organizers are emphasizing historical rigor in the festivities, particularly through the use of authentic 13th-century period clothing to better educate the public about medieval Mediterranean society.
