Mallorca businesses seek government aid to combat inflation

Retailers and restaurateurs in Mallorca are calling on the regional government for support to combat rising inflation and economic uncertainty. Business leaders from Afedeco and Restauración-CAEB warn that despite record tourism and employment figures, the benefits have not reached all sectors equally.

Joana Manresa, president of Afedeco, has requested the extension and adjustment of consumer discount voucher programs. She suggests these initiatives should be activated during low-consumption months, such as October, November, February, and March, rather than during peak tourist seasons or sales periods.

Bartomeu Mas, manager of Restauración-CAEB, noted that support does not necessarily need to be monetary and could include legislative changes. Business owners expressed concern over rising labor and energy costs, geopolitical uncertainty, and the risk of stagflation. Due to these pressures, many businesses in major tourist areas of Mallorca are expected to close until March or April 2027.
