Mallorca hotels see 19% booking surge ahead of 2026 solar eclipse

Hotel reservations across the Balearic Islands jumped 19.1% during the week of the total solar eclipse on 12 August 2026, outpacing the 13.3% rise recorded for the entire month. Room‑night bookings rose 13.2% that week, versus a 10% increase for August overall, while average daily rates grew modestly by 5.5% year‑on‑year, slightly below the 6.4% monthly increase. Mallorca benefited the most, with bookings up 7.8% and room nights up 7.4%, especially in interior and eastern coastal areas that offer optimal viewing conditions. Llucmajor led with 181 additional bookings and 95 extra nights, followed by Porto Cristo and Cala Mayor. Hotel operators are prioritising occupancy over price hikes, leveraging early bookings made six to twelve months in advance.

The surge reflects heightened demand for eclipse‑focused tourism, prompting providers to adjust operations, design tailored packages and promote destinations with favorable visibility and accommodation options.
