Mallorca municipalities to access emergency water via tankers

The Balearic Water and Environmental Quality Agency (ABAQUA) has approved a new collaboration model to ensure potable water supplies for municipalities in Mallorca that are not connected to the high-supply network managed by the Agency.

Under this flexible agreement, local town councils can request water via tanker trucks from the Son Pacs facilities to address specific shortages. To utilize this service, municipalities must provide at least 48 hours' notice and specify the authorized trucks for loading. ABAQUA will maintain quality controls up to the point of loading in accordance with health regulations.

The initiative aims to optimize existing hydraulic infrastructure and strengthen response capacities during periods of high demand or water scarcity. The model applies to current users such as Deià, Puigpunyent, Banyalbufar, and Bunyola, and may be extended to other municipalities in the Pla de Mallorca region.
