Mallorca ports advance sustainability with shore‑power ferry and vehicle‑data pact

The Port Authority of the Balearic Islands connected the fast ferry SOM MENORCA to a low‑voltage on‑shore power supply at Port d'Alcúdia, enabling the vessel to shut down its auxiliary engines while docked. The system is expected to avoid about 236 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year and save roughly 88 000 litres of fuel. A medium‑voltage connection is planned for September to serve larger ships.

The Consell de Mallorca signed an agreement with ferry operators Baleària, Trasmed and GNV to provide detailed vehicle entry and exit data for 2024‑2026. The data will support a planned limitation on vehicle entry to the island starting in 2027, aiming to improve traffic management and mobility. Council president Llorenç Galmes and company executives highlighted the measure as a key step toward better transport regulation.
