Mallorca residents protest against rising tourism saturation
Thousands of residents in Mallorca have taken to the streets to protest against increasing tourism saturation and its impact on local living conditions. In July 2026, a major demonstration in Palma de Mallorca, organized by the platform Menys Turisme, Més Vida, drew between 25,000 and 70,000 participants, according to varying estimates from police and organizers.
Protesters, including social, labor, and environmental associations, are demanding limits on tourism growth to reclaim space for the local population. Further demonstrations occurred in Sóller in August 2026, organized by Moviment Jove Sóllerha. These mobilizations reflect a growing movement in the Balearic Islands that has intensified since 2017, as residents struggle with the economic and social pressures of mass tourism.
