Mass Tourism Protest Scheduled in Palma, Mallorca on July 26

On Sunday, 26 July at 19:00, a large demonstration titled “Mallorca al límit” will take place in Palma, the capital of Mallorca. The protest is organized by the GOB Mallorca platform together with civil groups Terraferida, Menys Turisme, and Més Vida, and is supported by more than 100 environmental, labour, neighbourhood and cultural organisations. Organisers call for the streets to be “filled to the breaking point” to demand an end to the island’s unchecked mass‑tourism model.

Thousands of residents are expected to march, echoing two previous large rallies that each drew tens of thousands. The manifest lists ten reasons why the island has “reached its limit”, highlighting over‑exploitation of water resources, traffic congestion, waste overload, and a severe housing crisis – with roughly 100,000 vacant apartments and another 100,000 used only seasonally. Protesters request stricter regulation of short‑term rentals, limits on speculative property purchases, and a shift toward a more sustainable, resident‑focused economy.

The demonstration reflects growing concerns that rising visitor numbers, soaring living costs and the dominance of tourism are worsening quality of life for local workers and families. Organisers argue that without decisive policy changes the social and environmental pressures will continue to intensify.
