Malmö and Mölndal see significant economic and urban growth

Swedish cities Malmö and Mölndal are experiencing significant economic and urban growth. In Malmö, employment has increased by 12 percent since the pandemic, adding approximately 15,000 jobs. This growth rate outpaces other major Swedish cities like Gothenburg and Stockholm. The city has transitioned from traditional industries like shipbuilding and textiles to a knowledge-intensive economy, attracting over 270 corporate headquarters. The tech-oriented insurance sector is a notable driver, with companies such as Trygg-Hansa expanding their presence in the Hyllie business district.

In Mölndal, urban development is accelerating to support business needs and a target population increase of 1,000 people annually. The city aims to construct 500 new apartments per year to facilitate business establishment. Major ongoing projects include the SCA building, which will accommodate roughly 1,000 employees, and developments in Pedagogen Park. Additionally, the Kållered Köpstad project is moving forward following simplified planning and land control by Ikea/Ikano.
