Malmö Festival 2026 launches with expanded venues and extra public transport

The Malmö Festival 2026 opens on 7 August and runs through 14 August, turning central Malmö into Scandinavia’s largest city festival. Organisers have added more than 1,000 program items across about 20 stages, including a larger Gustavscenen capacity (3 000 → 5 000 seats), a new Ferris wheel on Gustav Adolfs torg, an expanded main stage on Stortorget, a bigger circus‑theatre tent on Lördagsplan, a weather‑proof children’s tent and a redesigned Fontänenscenen at Älvsborgsbron. The event is certified as a Sustainable Event by Greentime, with initiatives such as turning used cooking oil into soap and converting urine into fertilizer.

To accommodate the expected crowds, Skånetrafiken is increasing service: longer regional trains, extra departures on Pågatågen and Öresundståg, additional carriages for more seats, and standby buses that can be deployed as needed. Several city bus lines are rerouted, temporary stops are set up, and passengers are urged to check the Skånetrafiken app for the latest changes. These transport measures run from 3 August to 17 August, covering the festival build‑up and the event itself.
