Malmö stabbing investigation targets potential hate crime motive
A 45-year-old man has been seriously injured following an unprovoked knife attack in Malmö, Sweden. The incident occurred outdoors between Södervärn and Möllevångstorget on Wednesday afternoon. The victim was reportedly attacked from behind and sustained multiple stab wounds.
A man in his 40s has been detained by prosecutors on suspicion of attempted murder. According to reports, the suspect was apprehended at a nearby hospital, where he was reportedly seen waving a knife in a maternity ward. During interrogations, the suspect has reportedly appeared incoherent and unstable.
Police are investigating the possibility of a hate crime motive. Witnesses reported hearing antisemitic remarks during the attack, and reports suggest the suspect had participated in pro-Palestinian demonstrations. While the victim's connection to Judaism or Israel has not been established, the Swedish Security Service (Säpo) has been informed and is in dialogue with local police regarding the investigation.
