Malmöfestivalen hosts Sweden's first female urinal

Sweden's first female urinal has been introduced at the Malmöfestivalen to reduce queue times and improve safety for women late at night. The pink urinal, located at Gustav Adolfs torg, was developed by Hyrtoaletten.

Pia Arvidsson, founder of Hyrtoaletten, noted that while men have urinals, women lack similar options. This new model is lighter than previous versions, weighing 90 kilograms, allowing it to be moved by two people.

The initiative is a collaboration with Sanitation 360, which aims to minimize environmental impact by converting urine into fertilizer pellets. Nicola Parfitt of Sanitation 360 mentioned a project with Oatly to test growing oats using these fertilizer pellets for oat milk production. The urinals utilize a chemical mixture to retain nitrogen and prevent the formation of ammonia, helping to keep the facilities odor-free.
