Malorad holds partial mayoral elections following previous fraud

The village of Malorad in the Borovan Municipality held a partial election for mayor. This follows a controversial 2023 election where results were contested after members of a local election commission were found to have manipulated preferences for specific council candidates. Two commission members received five-month suspended prison sentences for their roles in the incident.

In the current election, five candidates are competing for the mayoral post among 1,330 eligible voters. Tanya Nikolova, the secretary of the Borovan Municipality, noted that no irregularities were reported during the voting process, expressing hope that the election would proceed smoothly. This partial vote occurs one week before the first round of presidential elections.
