Malpensa Airport: 8.5 tons of illegal food products seized
During the first half of 2026, joint inspections by the Guardia di Finanza and the Customs Agency at Malpensa Airport resulted in the seizure of over 8.5 tons of illegal food products. These items, brought in by passengers arriving from non-EU countries, lacked the necessary sanitary, documentary, and traceability requirements mandated by Italian and European regulations.
The seized food includes approximately 4.9 tons of fish products, 1.1 tons of meat, more than 300 kilograms of poultry, and various quantities of dairy. Additionally, authorities seized and destroyed 2 tons of vegetable products that posed a potential risk to European crops under EU Regulation 2016/2031.
Beyond food, officials intercepted 1,157 cosmetic products imported in quantities exceeding personal use limits, violating safety and security regulations. Authorities stated that surveillance will continue with targeted checks on high-risk passenger flows to protect public health and the national economy.
