Malta and Malaysia report economic growth projections and results
Malta’s economy is projected to grow by 3.8% in 2026, according to the Central Bank, driven primarily by strong private consumption. Inflation is expected to decrease to 2.2% this year. The government deficit is forecasted to narrow to 1.6% of GDP by 2028, while debt is expected to decline to 44.2% of GDP.
In the Maltese housing sector, 3,126 new dwellings were approved during the second quarter of 2026, a 3.3% increase from the previous year. Apartments accounted for 72.1% of these approvals. Additionally, the refurbished Ta’ Qali animal hospital is set to serve as a clinical training center for veterinary students at MCAST.
In Malaysia, the economy grew by 6% in the second quarter of 2026, exceeding the 5.4% growth recorded in the first quarter. Discussions regarding this growth have focused on whether economic expansion is translating into improved wellbeing for the population.
