Malta attractiveness for foreign investors rises to 81%

According to the EY Malta Attractiveness Survey 2026, 81% of foreign investors now consider Malta an attractive destination for foreign direct investment. This marks a significant increase from 79% in 2025 and 54% in 2024, representing the highest attractiveness rating for the country since 2016.

Nine out of ten companies surveyed intend to either maintain or expand their operations in Malta over the next year. The survey also highlights a growing interest in artificial intelligence, with 59% of investors identifying AI as a key driver for economic growth, up from 47% the previous year. AI was also cited as the sector with the highest potential for long-term growth.

Prime Minister Robert Abela noted that these results reflect confidence in the nation's economic prospects and the government's national AI strategy. He highlighted previous digital transformation investments and reaffirmed the government's commitment to maintaining energy and fuel subsidies, with 400 million euros allocated for the current year.
