Malta dancer Kelly Caruana dies after car accident

Kelly Caruana, an 18-year-old dancer from Paola, Malta, has died following a car accident in Qormi. The incident occurred on August 21 when a 20-year-old driver lost control of a Renault Clio and struck a barrier.

Reports from the family and local media suggest that Caruana was leaning down to retrieve her mobile phone from beneath the seat at the moment of impact. It is alleged that the force of the airbag deploying directly into her face caused fatal injuries, rather than the collision with the barrier itself. While these details are central to the family's account, official police investigations and autopsy results are still pending to confirm the exact cause of death.

Caruana was a member of the Lookstar Dancers Tarxien and a participant in Maltese carnival events. The driver survived the crash with serious injuries. Magistrate Joe Mifsud has opened an investigation to reconstruct the circumstances of the accident.
