Malta music scene hosts punk festival and political protest concert

Malta’s alternative music scene is hosting significant events ranging from genre celebrations to political protests. At GrintaFest in Tigullio, St Julian’s, the local punk community gathered to bridge generational gaps. The festival featured veteran acts such as RAS, Batteries Not Included (BNI), and Il-Pupi tal-Logħob alongside newer contemporary performers like BRUDA, 5 Years From Now, and BILA.

Separately, several prominent Maltese artists are organizing a protest concert at Triton Square, outside Valletta’s gates, on October 4th. Organized by Moviment Graffitti, Repubblika, and Occupy Justice, the event aims to use music as a form of civic action to call for truth, justice, and institutional accountability. The protest follows recent demonstrations in solidarity with the family of Daphne Caruana Galizia and features a lineup of artists including Brikkuni, Beangrowers, and BILA, with performances focused on themes of resistance and dissent.
