Malta snooker teams see mixed start at European Championship

Malta’s senior snooker teams experienced a mixed opening day at the European Senior Snooker Team Championship in Sofia, Bulgaria, recording one victory and one defeat in each category.

In the Over 40 category, Philip Ciantar and Emanuel Mallia secured a 3-0 win against Austria 2 before losing a closely contested match 3-2 to Poland 1. Despite the loss, the Maltese pair has qualified for the next stage, though they may face a play-off depending on other group results.

In the Over 55 category, France Mintoff and Ivan Attard suffered a 3-1 defeat against Wales 1 but rebounded with a 3-0 victory over Finland 2. Their progression to the quarter-finals now depends on the outcome of their final group match against Ireland 2.
